As soon as Scott saw Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the Republican National Convention, he knew it had to go into the Year in Review. The conversation with the empty chair was so comical that the joke pretty much wrote itself. Originally the line was a befuddled Eastwood saying, “I’m talking to a chair!” As the surrounding lines took shape, it felt right to change it to “I argued with a chair!”
