The idea when this scene was story boarded was always to build a set, put it in a fish tank and then fill it with water.  Jeff had really wanted to get a real goldfish and have it swim by but that proved to be a bit complicated given our timeline.  Next, we toyed with the idea of having an homage to Blinky the Three Eyed Fish from the first season of the Simpsons and we even built the puppet but ultimately that just confused the shot as well.  This was another case of us trying to jam an extra gag into a 1/2 second shot!
