Mayo En Febrero
We’re sure that you’re just getting over Valentine’s Day, but over here at JibJab we’re already thinking about the 5th of May! That’s why we had traditional Mexican folk dancers come down to our studio this week, borrowed from Los Angeles’ historic La Fonda restaurant on Wilshire. Home to delicious Mexican cuisine and live mariachi performances, we couldn’t help but ask if the talented dancers at La Fonda might help us put an authentic twist on our upcoming Cinco De Mayo dance! Take a gander at the beautiful costumes and immense skill they brought to the table when the dancers stopped by yesterday…

Back on Tracks
We get a lot of use out of our in-house sound booth, both for recording sample tracks and capturing our final audio. Devin here has been working on a birthday piece for the last few weeks and finally got to lay down his master tracks today.
Our sound booth may be small, but it does the trick. You may notice that the visage of Morgan Freeman presiding over our booth. He is the patron saint of voice over, after all. Devin, the master of quirky voice over, proves that it really helps to use your hands in the booth if you want to nail that specific sound and energy you’re looking for. -
Sharing Tips and Tricks
Just recently we’ve been holding in-office seminars to pass around our individual knowledge and techniques relating to the animation process. We kept one wall completely free of pirate stuff just for projection purposes. From After Effects to Flash, Photoshop to Maya, animation takes a ton of technical skill!

Our Ugly Mugs
You must possess two things to be a proper JibJab employee. A penchant for comedy and a healthy love for beer. Most of us just embody the latter, as evidenced by the JibJab kitchen area…
Everyone working here has their own personalized mug, emblazoned with our faces. Now, with every beer, we have our own personal Starring You! experience. Helps us to waste less paper and plastic cups, while keeping our spit to ourselves.

Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre: Selected Cuts by Wilhelm Staehle
Come see the work of one of JibJab’s most insanely talented artists! Wilhelm Staehle is putting up an exhibit at the Hibbleton Gallery all through February, featuring his twisted, hand cut silhouette pieces.
A brief description of his works on display:
Staehle is influenced by the look and feel of Victorian design, and explores the marriage of Victorian elegance with macabre humor. He is inspired by old fairytales and poems whose meanings and origins are far less innocent than they appear at first glance. He is also attracted to silhouettes, which are common in Victorian art. However, traditionally, silhouettes are black, to imply shadows. Staehle often reverses these silhouettes, making them light instead of dark, thus making them “blank slates” where one can imprint their own meanings onto the forms. In this way, the mere shape of a person gesturing does not always reveal the truth of what is happening.
The Hibbleton Gallery is located at
112 West Wilshire Avenue
Fullerton, CA 92832Hours
Thursday – Sunday 1pm – 6pmExhibit ends March 1st.

We’re excited to be sharing the every day antics of the JibJab production studios with the world, and as you see pictures from our work place, you may notice a plethora of jolly rogers and eyepatches around the office. Personalized Obama images? Yes, please!
Last week, the JibJab staff went a little nuts, playing with the do-it-yourself Obamicon creator over at Paste Magazine. Inspired by the famous ‘Hope’ posters from the Obama campaign, you can get presidential with your own personalized portrait. Needless to say, we had a little fun. Here are a few favorites from around the office. Thanks Paste!
